One of Nick's biggest visions for the show was to use shadow play for the number Ten Little Indians. This left a giant screen center stage longing for a purpose. We filled that purpose with video.
Nick and I worked together to have video running 90% of the show, taking it out only for shadow play and to rid the stage of distraction for more intimate moments.
In some aspects, the show was purposefully designed as if high school students had done the work. Hand drawn maps and buffalo, and history book images made up a large portion of the video images.
When no image was necessary to help with the story, television static would take over. In some cases this static would swallow whatever image was currently on screen.
When doubt, fun animations would aid in transitions. Walls baring Jackson's branding would fall down, to reveal campaign posters or his own backyard.
